REfuse: Receipts

I will refuse receipts whenever possible. Receipts are everywhere in our lives and on campus. The majority of them contain some amount of some type of plastic. Therefore, they cannot be recycled or composted. Nothing says you HAVE to get a receipt. Often, email receipts, text receipts, or no receipt are all options.

I will visit the on-campus "free store", known as the Spider Exchange, to donate unneeded items or "shop" for free from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Spider Exchange is located at 24D New Fraternity Row. Bring jars if you wish to fill up on refill supplies from Eco-Inspired!

I will visit a local refill store to fill up on bulk items and reduce purchasing of plastic. Refill shops not only allow you to refill containers instead of buying new, but they also carry numerous plastic-free swaps for many of the single use items available at traditional retailers.

I will participate in the waste audit at 9:00 a.m. at the Wood Triangle. Rethink Waste will be auditing waste from Tyler’s Grill to assess the effectiveness of our waste display boxes. The results from this audit will help us determine if three-dimensional visual aids are more effective in communicating waste expectations than traditional two-dimensional signage.
