Day 1 - Conservation & Biodiversity
SPEND TIME OUTSIDE
I will replace 60 minutes each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Day 1 - Conservation & Biodiversity
PRACTICE GRATITUDE
I will spend 60 minutes each day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and the nature surrounding me.
Day 4 - Climate Crisis
ADJUST THE THERMOSTAT
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Day 4 - Climate Crisis
TURN IT OFF
I will keep lights, electronics and appliances turned off when not using them.
Day 5 - Rethink Waste
REfuse: Receipts
I will refuse receipts whenever possible. Receipts are everywhere in our lives and on campus. The majority of them contain some amount of some type of plastic. Therefore, they cannot be recycled or composted. Nothing says you HAVE to get a receipt. Often, email receipts, text receipts, or no receipt are all options.
Day 3 - Food & Water
SMART LAUNDRY
I will conserve water and energy by only doing full loads of laundry in cold water.
Day 2 - Community & Justice
Learn About Equity and Inclusion
I will learn about equity and inclusion resources on campus and in Richmond.
Day 5 - Rethink Waste
REthink: Plastic
I will spend 60 minutes learning about the health and environmental impacts of plastics and I will consider where and how I can use less plastic in my life.
Day 2 - Community & Justice
SHOP WOMEN-OWNED
I will shop from two women-owned businesses this week.
Day 1 - Conservation & Biodiversity
ENJOY THE SUNRISE/SUNSET
I will enjoy the sunrise and sunset today.
Day 3 - Food & Water
THE TRUTH ABOUT EXPIRATION DATES
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Day 2 - Community & Justice
LEARN ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE IN RICHMOND
I will spend 60 minutes learning about environmental justice issues in Richmond.
Day 3 - Food & Water
PLAN YOUR MEALS
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu and only buying the ingredients I need.
Day 5 - Rethink Waste
REthink & REuse: Refill
I will visit a local refill store to fill up on bulk items and reduce purchasing of plastic. Refill shops not only allow you to refill containers instead of buying new, but they also carry numerous plastic-free swaps for many of the single use items available at traditional retailers.
Day 3 - Food & Water
Eat local and in season
I will buy local produce and meats when shopping for groceries. I will purchase seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Day 3 - Food & Water
SHORT SHOWER CHALLENGE
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by keeping my showers under 5 minutes.
Day 2 - Community & Justice
MEET MY NEIGHBORS
I will meet one new office, dorm, or apartment neighbor each day.
