  • Reflection Question
Waste - Day 5 Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?

I think a main barrier to making the new habit of using reusable water bottles lies in the convenience of plastic bottles. ETC and other locations offer easy access to these plastic bottles, and students often rationalize the purchase due to the fact that they are paying with "fake money" via dining dollars. One other thing I know personally sometimes persuades me to buy a water bottle rather than refill my reusable one is the refill stations filtering systems being on red. These systems often stay on red at the refill locations for sometimes weeks. If these filters were changed more often, it might avoid students automatically resorting to buying a plastic water bottle.
